Abstract:

Introduction:Patients require quality health care, otherwise in Intensive Care Units (ICU). A key component to this service successfully is effective communication between multidisciplinary team. Τhe aim of the present study was to review the adoption of standard protocol - a tool for ensuring the quality of care given the difficulties that developed in the communication between the multidisciplinary team and in particular between the hospital and the medical sector. Material & Method: The search method used in electronic databases (Medline, Pubmed, Embase). The keywords used were "SBAR protocol", "Communication", "ICU", and combinations thereof. Specifically, they read the abstracts and rejected many were not relevant to the topic. From systematic literature review identified 34 studies, of which 18 were used which concerned the application of this standard in intensive care units. Results: It is necessary to introduce changes in each ICU. Daily use of the tool SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) facility showed signs of individual process. The structure, cohesion and intimacy provided by the SBAR tool, resulted in improved situational awareness proportioned and long process, staff, and patient benefits. Conclusions: The implementation of a new process finds ally facilitate effective communication so as not created undermining the credibility of nursing science, with the adoption of specific communication tools.
